Roadblock Yields Questions...and Results

Perhaps you noticed the roadblock on Hutchinson Road about 9 p.m. on Saturday night. It was the largest (i.e., most police vehicles in attendance) roadblock many have ever encountered.

Cumminghome contacted Capt Frank Huggins of the the Forsyth Sheriff's Dept regarding this, and following was the reply:

"We were conducting our usual safety checks at various locations throughout the county. In addition, we had officers from other agencies working with us as part of Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) training. Part of that course requires "On The Job" training, which explains why the presence appeared so large. While I don't have the final results yet, I can tell you that as a result of these efforts, a large number of impaired drivers were removed from the roads during this operation. Anytime we can remove one drunk or drug-impaired driver from the roads of Forsyth County means that your family and others are just that more safer. Law-abiding citizens should have nothing to fear when passing through these Safety Checks, and we work hard to keep traffic moving, so that no one will be unnecessarily delayed. Also, anyone desiring information about our operations can contact that Division head direct through our website, www.forsythsheriff.org, or can direct their questions to me, fahuggins@forsythcounty.org and I'll see that the email is forwarded appropriately. We're happy to answer any inquiries someone might have."
