When setting your clock back this weekend for daylight savings time, it’s the perfect time to check your smoke detector's batteries as well.

  • Batteries should be replaced every six months, and the best way to remember is by changing your smoke detector batteries the same day you reset your clocks.
  • Be sure to have a smoke detector on every level of your home.
  • Test your smoke detector at least once a month.
  • Make sure smoke detectors are clean and free of dust.
  • Smoke detectors should be replaced every eight to ten years.
  • Always dial 911 in case of any emergency.

The Forsyth County Fire Department provides free smoke detectors to senior citizens and low income residents of Forsyth County, and the Department is also available to assist senior citizens with their battery maintenance.

For further information, please call Lieutenant Bob Westbrook at (770) 781-2180, x4028.

Time for Change: Change Your Clock, Change Your Batteries
When "falling back" this weekend, you'll more than likely have to change several clocks in your home. Why not change the batteries in your smoke detector, too?
