In light of the recent deaths of five teenagers who lost their lives in wrecks in Forsyth County, three of which occurred last week, Sheriff Ted Paxton announced today that the Sheriff’s Office and the Forsyth County School System will be holding three town hall meetings next week to address the issue of accidents involving teen drivers.
The three meetings, Monday, June 6 at South Forsyth High School, Tuesday, June 7 at Forsyth Central High School and Wednesday, June 8 at North Forsyth High School, will feature representatives from the Sheriff’s Office, School System, Lanier Extended Area Drivers Education Resource (L.E.A.D.E.R.) and clergy. L.E.A.D.E.R. is sponsored by Forsyth County area Rotary Clubs.
“We want to invite both parents and teenagers to these meetings, not only to inform them about the teen driving programs we have, but to receive their input on what we can do to help prevent any more tragedies like we had last week,” Sheriff Paxton said. “It is important that parents and teens give us their input on how they view their responsibilities as parents and teen drivers, but what they expect of us as well,” he added. “We’re willing to do whatever is necessary to prevent these needless deaths.”
Each meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. and should last about one and one-half hours. Attendees will have an opportunity for questions and answers. Sheriff’s Office and School System representatives will review the safe driving programs and resources that are currently available to both parents and teens.
