Trash in Forsyth County Neighborhood Tampered With

A resident of the Chattahoochee River Club community recently reported that trash had been stolen from his bins. The resident put his trash cans out the evening before pickup and found that the next morning, before pickup, someone had gone through the can (at his curb) and removed some of his discarded mail.

The resident contacted the Sheriff's department and was advised that once you put your can out on the street (which is no longer on your property), it is considered Public Domain and not considered "stealing" if someone takes something from your trash.

Everyone is asked to consider shredding papers -- particularly documents with personal or account information -- before throwing them away. Another suggestion would be to place trash bins out at the curb in the early morning of trash pick-up day.
