Tuesday, September 14th was "Mitchell Bishop Day" at the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. That was the day the 7 year-old McDonough youth was honored by Sheriff Ted Paxton and other agency members for his role in the safe recovery of a missing two year-old boy who was taken by his babysitter. The story unfolded like this:
It was the night of Monday, August 13 when Mitchell and his mother, Kristy, were watching television and saw the Levi's Call that was sent out because of the apparent kidnapping of Jack Gooding of Cumming. The vehicle lookout in the Levi's Call was a white van, and the tag number was provided in the lookout.
Just a few minutes after the lookout was broadcast, Mitchell was out in the yard and noticed a white van matching the description driving slowly down his Henry County street. He went in and told his mother that he thought he has just seen the van. Mom, being just a little skeptical, sent Mitchell out to get the tag number of the van he had seen, which was now parked in a nearby yard.
Mitchell returned home and reported that the numbers matched. Still not satisfied, Kristy Bishop told him to again verify the tag number. The match was there.
Mrs. Bishop immediately notified authorities and the missing child was safely recovered a few minutes later. The babysitter was arrested and charged with Interference with Custody.

As a sweet reward, Karleen Chalker serves Mitchell the first slice of a cake honoring his achievement.
