Alpharetta, GA…Join the tradition and give a gift to nature this holiday season! Keep Georgia Beautiful and partners invite you to celebrate the 16th annual “Bring One for the Chipper” and recycle your old Christmas tree after the holidays.
As part of a statewide effort to reuse Christmas trees, Keep Georgia Beautiful and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs have joined with corporate sponsors The Home Depot, 11 Alive (Atlanta’s NBC affiliate) and the Davey Tree Expert Company to sponsor the “Bring One for the Chipper program. Georgia residents are invited to bring their trees to a neighborhood drop off center in their neighborhood on Saturday, January 6, 2007 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. only. Trees will be chipped into mulch by the Davey Tree Expert company or used as wildlife habitat. The mulch is used for public beautification projects, and in many communities is available free to citizens.
In appreciation of their recycling efforts, participants will also receive a free dogwood seedling while supplies last.
The City of Alpharetta drop off site is the Home Depot located on Windward Parkway.
The Kiwanis Club of Alpharetta will staff the drop off location on the day of collection assisted by local high school key clubs, scouts and community volunteers. Local sponsors this year are the Windward Parkway Home Depot and Windward Parkway Chick-fil-A store.
Information for drop off areas is available by zip code on the “Bring One for the Chipper” web site at www.KeepGeorgiaBeautiful.org.
Since 1991, “Bring One for the Chipper”, has collected more than 4 million trees and provided over one million tree seedlings to participants. Last year, more than 250,000 trees were recycled. The program produces tangible environmental benefits while helping local governments comply with state regulations that prohibit the disposal of yard trimmings in municipal landfills.
“For seventeen years this program has given Georgians the opportunity to make reuse a part of their holiday traditions. Trees are given a second life as mulch or as wildlife habitat,” says Keep Georgia Beautiful’s Sarah Visser, coordinator of the statewide event, “and communities get the chance to promote the importance of recycling and environmental conservation.”
