Fulton County School Board Member Liz Hausmann is expected to resign her seat at Thursday’s November 16 Board meeting, which will allow her replacement Ashley Widener to be sworn in and take office.
Hausmann, who has represented District 5 on the Board since 2003, recently was elected to the new Johns Creek City Council. Widener was elected to fill Hausmann’s seat and will join the seven-member School Board following a swearing-in ceremony conducted by Superior Court Judge Tom Campbell.
In addition to years of local school involvement and volunteerism, Widener brings strong experience in business and organizational management to her position on the School Board. She currently is vice president of Widener & Associates, Inc., an association management and governmental relations firm, and formerly has worked as an independent political consultant.
Widener holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Georgia. She has worked with addicted teens, provided family counseling, and also has been the executive director of a Savannah homeless shelter providing social and educational support to single mothers.
Widener is married and has a daughter at Northview High School and two grown stepchildren. She has been an active parent at State Bridge Crossing Elementary School, River Trail Middle School, Autrey Mill Middle School and Northview High School. She and her husband Bruce are active members of the Peachtree Corners Baptist Church and the North Fulton Chamber of Commerce.
