ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Transportation advises motorists to anticipate significant delays on northbound Interstate 285 on the northwest side of the city Friday night and Saturday. Contractors will be performing emergency asphalt repairs that will require closing two outside (right) NB I-285 lanes between the Paces Ferry Road and Interstate 75 interchanges. Lanes will close at 10 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1, and remain closed until 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2.

The NB I-285 exit ramps to Cobb Parkway and NB I-75 will remain open during the work; however the I-75 ramp will be reduced to one lane. Motorists are advised to take special note of this reconfigured lane; proceed slowly; and exercise caution.

Additional work will necessitate a double-lane closure on I-75 SB between the SR 20 (Canton Highway) and SR 113 (Main Street) interchanges in Bartow Count y throughout the weekend; other construction will require a single-lane closure in Clayton and Fulton counties on I-85 NB between Riverdale Road and Virginia Avenue. Congestion is anticipated at both locations and motorists are urged to avoid the areas if possible.

All work is subject to prevailing weather. Should conditions become inclement, scheduled activities may be altered or cancelled.

Georgia DOT encourages the public to access the Department’s NaviGAtor travel services at its website (www.georgia-navigator.com) for detailed construction, lane closure and traffic incident information; and also to use the site to establish their own “My NaviGAtor” report for personalized, real-time traffic information. The public may also call the Department’s traffic and construction hotline toll free, 24 hours, seven days a week, at (404) 635-6800; or call *DOT on their Verizon or Cingular cellular phones to speak with a Transportation Management Center operator.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is committed to providing a safe, seamless and sustainable transportation system that supports Georgia’s economy and is sensitive to both its citizens and its environment.
