Rasmussen Commissioned to Design CABY

Roswell, GA (December 14, 2006)- With the second annual CABY awards scheduled for March 15, 2007, the Roswell Cultural Arts Board (CAB) has selected local artist Joan Rasmussen to design the 2007 CABY statuettes.

Rasmussen, an award winning artist, has held many shows all across the southeast and was the featured artist at the Newbill Collection in Seaside, Florida. Her work can also be seen at the 87 Ruffin Street Gallery in Linneville, North Carolina. She has studied with Deanna Sirlin at the Atlanta College of Art and with Debra Fritts at Arts Center West.

Cultural Arts Board Chair Sharon Moskowitz said the board was delighted to be able to commission Rasmussen to design the awards for this year's event. "All of Joan's work has the uncanny ability to capture your emotion with such great distinctive details. The CABY statuettes have become a piece of art, bringing value and prestige to the annual event. First Debra Fritts and now Joan...we are so fortunate!"

Rasmussen said she was thrilled to be asked to create the statuettes for the 2nd Annual CABY Awards since she is a resident of Roswell and so involved with its arts community.

"How many life altering decisions do we really make? Some choices affect more aspects of our lives than originally thought or planned. Such was the case when my husband and I chose Roswell over other areas when relocating to Georgia. At that time I knew little of its vibrant art community which plays such a significant role in my development as an artist. I am thankful for that choice and thrilled to have been given the CABY Award opportunity."

The awards will be given in seven different categories: Distinguished Visual Artist Award, Distinguished Performing Artist Award, Excellence in Arts Education Award, Organizational Achievement Award, Benefactor of the Year Award, Event of the Year Award, and the Emerging Artist/s Award.
