Roswell Receives Distribution System of the Year

Roswell, GA (November 7, 2006)-The City of Roswell recently received the Distribution System of the Year Award from the Georgia Association of Water Professionals (GAWP). Roswell won in the medium system category. Statewide, there are only one small, one medium and one large system of the year awards.

Areas in which Roswell excelled include the water conservation program, leak detection program, safety program and maintenance/repair materials and tracking. This is the first time Roswell has won this award.

"This award is a credit to the hard work by the Water Distribution staff," explains Kimberly Shorter, Water Resources Manager. "Staff is always looking for ways to improve the quality of service that we provide to our customers and maintaining the system in a fiscally responsible fashion."

Over 100 of the top water and wastewater municipalities in the State were eligible to participate in this annual competition. The evaluation process includes a comprehensive evaluation by independent judges and experts from within the fields of water resources, engineering and regulatory oversight.

"We are proud to recognize the City of Roswell's outstanding efforts to deliver safe drinking water," said Jack Dozier, Executive Director of the Georgia Association of Water Professionals. "The City of Roswell is to be commended for setting the example for every other municipality in the state."

Collection and distribution systems competing for this recognition were evaluated in categories including employee resources, facilities and operations, safety, emergency response and staff technical training. Participating staff personnel prepared representative materials, equipment lists, records of maintenance, repair activity, safety, training and other documents for review and inspection.
