Englewood, Colo. (Nov. 19, 2006)—The National Council for Public-Private Partnerships recognized the City of Sandy Springs and CH2M HILL OMI in Alexandria, Va. last Wednesday. This Tuesday, NCPPP Executive Director Richard (Rick) Norment will be in Sandy Springs to present the 2006 Public-Private Partnership Award for Innovation before the community.

The City of Sandy Springs-CH2M HILL OMI partnership for the operation of the new city was lauded by the selection committee as a landmark, first-of-its kind partnership and a role model from which other communities can learn. The partnership, in which the private sector delivers all major municipal services except public safety, currently is serving as a model for the new cities of Johns Creek and Milton, which incorporate Dec. 1.

“Award recipients are selected through an extremely thoughtful process by a committee of leading authorities in the field of public-private partnerships,” says Norment, who will present the award before the Sandy Springs city council at its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. Tues., Nov. 21. The meeting will take place at City Hall, Morgan Falls Office Park, 7840 Roswell Road, Suite 500 in Sandy Springs and is open to the public.

Sandy Springs Mayor Eva Galambos and CH2M HILL Vice President Pat Corleto officially accepted the award at a luncheon held in conjunction with NCPPP’s annual meeting outside of Washington, DC last Wednesday.

The NCPPP is a non-profit educational institute with membership from both the public and private sectors. Its annual awards exemplary projects and services that illustrate the best practices and innovative approaches in the use of public-private partnerships. This year there were six winners presented in three categories: infrastructure, service and innovation. CH2M HILL OMI’s partnership with Seattle Public Utilities for the design, construction and operation of its state-of-the-art Cedar Water Treatment Plant was among the other five winners.
