About Barbara
Barbara Peters is a Registered Nurse and a Licensed Professional Counselor. Barbara has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, a Bachelor of Sciences in Nursing and a Master of Sciences in Counseling. Certified by the National Board of Certified Counselors and a member of The Licensed Professional Counselors of Georgia, she has worked in diverse mental health settings: psychiatric hospitals, managed behavioral health organizations, and Employee Assistance consulting firms. As a nurse and a counselor, Barbara brings additional expertise to view the client from both a mental health and medical perspective, thus providing a truly comprehensive assessment.
Originally from Long Island New York, Barbara has been living in Georgia since 1986. She has been in the Cumming area for 5 years and is actively invested in keeping up with the community and it's needs. Having 2 grown daughters and 4 grandchildren, she has a strong belief in the family institution. Her main passion is working with couples, utilizing a solution-focused approach with an optimistic outlook to create a better relationship. She also works with individuals in a variety of areas. Barbara 's style is direct, respectful, non-judgmental and supportive. With gentle questioning, she helps get people in touch with their own values and ideals so they can gain trust in themselves to act in their own behalf.
Some of her hobbies include: spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, tennis, bowling, hiking and enjoying the outdoors. She also enjoys driving her Miata around the mountains of north Georgia and is a member of The Peachtree Miata Club.
